Welcome to the latest installment of our Bag of Tricks! On some days you will find useful tricks, gimmicks and ideas here that can make life in Neverwinter Online easier. Some of the stuff should be well known, but since even veterans learn something new every now and then, chance is you can, too.

In today’s edition of the Bag of Tricks we want to poke you to redirect you to our useful RNG Toolbox, more specifically data added by Beckylunatic to Overflow Rewards. She saved the rewards and waited for the Thanksgiving Frenzy to open them in bulk, providing a nice boost to both her characters and our data pool.

25% chance at Power Point

Through 553 Overflow Rewards pretty much exactly 25% returned a Power Point. The most likely reward in the second tier is a Flawless Sapphire (26%) followed by Rank 5 Enchantments (22%). The 30,000 Rough Astral Diamonds, the reward coveted by most, has a 15% chance to drop.

Devoted Cleric Michela123 has put up a very interesting thread in the guide section of the Arcgames forum. Endgame group composition in Neverwinter is largely about stacking buffs and debuffs and the comprehensive post pretty much delivers all you need to know about the topic. Michela123 is no stranger to theorycrafting as she has co-authored Sharpedge’s Notes on CW.

There’s a lively discussion ongoing in the thread, but for those not willing to crawl through we have compiled two interesting insights. There’s a lot more to discover though. So make sure to browse to the thread and extend your knowledge!

Capped or uncapped?

Debuffs cap at 200% effectiveness. As long as you have a MoF Control Wizard in your group you should be able to hit the cap at any given time. Interestingly some powers and feats are uncapped and can be stacked on top of the 200%. Scourge Warlocks add a whopping 35% worth of personal and 15% worth of group debuffs through Tyrannical Curse and Hadar’s Grasp. Also most debuffing companions are uncapped and the debuffs of Sellsword and Con Artist stack. Weapon Enchantments that don’t cap are Plague Fire and Frost, making them substantially better than the others.

Do not use debuffing Artifacts

Artifacts with debuff powers seem kinda unnecessary. Lantern caps at 200% and doesn’t help a ton and the others that do not cap are bugged and/or lose effectiveness from mob DR and versus level 73 mobs. If you’re not absolutely sure that your group doesn’t hit the cap it’s probably better to use something else.

Storm Kings Thunder has introduced so called “found quests” that drop from various mobs throughout adventure zones. They grant quick missions that hand out minor experience, gold and Voninblod. The Giant Rations is such an item in example. Some of them are as simple as accept and hand in, but others, especially in Sea of Moving Ice, warrant farming a few mobs for quest items.

The items are useless, so let’s act accordingly

It’s one thing that these are hardly worth completing for the attached rewards, but that makes it even more annoying that the items reside in the inventory although they serve no purpose over granting a quest. Luckily they can safely be discarded. Once added, the attached quest is in the players’ log and you can complete it with or without the item that granted it.

That way you can slightly reduce inventory clutter and don’t feel forced to complete the mission to get rid of them.

We recently stumbled upon a very interested thread on the Subreddit that outlined possible buffs you can get from potions and food. It’s a rather impressive list that got even more impressive when Lancer added info complied by a member of the Synergy alliance. Apparently the buffs can stack up to add the equivalent of 38 Ranks 12s in stats. Here’s the posted picture that you should add to your standard resource pool.

We know Fishing is boring, but we also know we need those Svardborg keys. What we didn’t know so far was how much Elk Tribe Support one catch is able to generate on average. We did track catches over an extended period of time and are now confident that this number can be set to around 17.

The image on the left shows a pretty common distribution when fishing with Krill. In that particular case 707 catches returned fish worth 12,275 Elk Tribe Support, 17.36 per catch. Here’s a full table:

Fish Amount %
 Tier 1  255  36.07
 Tier 2  186  26.31
 Tier 3  128  18.10
 Tier 4  94  13.30
 Tier 5  44  6.22

This data suggests that one Svardborg key for the Elk Tribe chest requires 57 catches, not counting any Maps in a Bottle you might find.

Players widely agree that the devs could do a better job of giving players tools to properly test on the preview server. One minor, albeit very annoying, wall you run into are character slots. On the preview server players start with the standard of two slots and no way to buy more. The ZEN store is not available and the slots you have on live do not transfer. This means if you copy over two characters, you can’t create additional ones.

It might not sound like a big issue, because situations where you absolutely can’t delete characters on preview and at the same time want to start a new one from scratch are rare. But they do exist for theorycrafters and testers. Luckily with the introduction of prebuild level 70 characters, there is now a workaround. Those are actually unlocked and come with an extra character slot. Meaning if you “buy” a new level 70 character through the character selection screen, you gain access to more slots. Create, delete (or keep) the fresh level 70, repeat. Theoretically you can get up to the maximum of 50 slots that way.

There’s one obstacle though: To start the process you need to strip down to one character. But then you’ll most likely never have to delete anything useful again on the preview server. Thanks to user wulfsaxin for bringing this up on our message board! It’s really a handy trick for all those that were annoyed by the limited character slots!

The players that aim for the new Mirage Weapon Set have to farm the Illusionist’s Gambit skirmish quite a bit. You need 35 Fleece to get enough of the resource for both your Main and Off-Hand. It’s not a terribly unreasonable grind however as you are guaranteed to get one Fleece per run. And it turns out you don’t even need a gold completion for it.

While Gold rewards players with more Seals, Abandoned Treasures and a higher chance at more quality companion gear, you are indeed getting a Fleece every run. Players have figured it out and have started requesting Bronze multi-runs. We’re not sure this is intended, but quickly beating the first waves and then quit using the group vote does seem to be the quickest way to farm Fleece right now.

Assassin’s Covenant is the new must-have Insignia Bonus since Module 10 for DPS builds, but so far it hasn’t been available on a cheap Mount. This changed with Module 11 and the introduction of the Many-Starred Lockbox. Its Mount Pack drops the blue Aberrant Fey Wolf that’s able to hold the bonus.

The Stormraider Clydesdale from the ZEN market is an account-unlock and has other possible Insignia Bonuses, but even if you’re waiting for a big 40% sale on the Jubilee, that’s still slightly over 1M AD, or 20x Fey Wolfs. So if you don’t plan to supply more than 20 characters with Assassin’s Covenant, it’s not worth it.

Those Wolves are looking like a very good deal for the Clydesdale-less, even with planning to equip a number of alts.

You may have stumbled upon on of the found quests in the River District called “Reclamation Specialists”. Certain “adventurer” mobs drop the quest granting Incriminating Documents and players need to find five more in order to complete the thing. Turns out those adventurers are hard to find, but our JayAgeDee luckily put effort in and mapped some spawn locations.

Go far so good. Unfortunately however while these are location where you can find adventurer mobs, they don’t spawn consistently. At any time there seems to be a certain number of groups active, but the locations cycle. The map also might not be 100% accurate. So if you’ve found more, let us know so we can add them!

In any case we hope this will prove useful for those that plan to complete the quest!

Welcome to the latest installment of our Bag of Tricks! On some days you will find useful tricks, gimmicks and ideas here that can make life in Neverwinter Online easier. Some of the stuff should be well known, but since even veterans learn something new every now and then, chance is you can, too.

If you’re not farming Masterwork nodes this weekend, you’re doing something wrong! The endgame profession system is getting an update with module 11b and the resources are selling well! In case you have stockpiled Explorer’s Charts you might ask yourself what’s the fastest way to run the locations. Next to having a fast Mount and Movement upgrades, there are actually some tricky routes that can save a few seconds here and there. And farming a sizeable amount of charts, this can add up to being a considerable time saver.

First of all there’s one requirement: You need a character with a long dodge ability like Control Wizard, Trickster Rogue, Devoted Cleric and want to assign a suicide hotkey (+VIP). Also: The node locations might not be 100% accurate as we’ve pulled them from memory, but that doesn’t affect the routes.

Whispering Caverns

First route

  1. Start with the node on the top left corner
  2. Process to the second node in the “Steelshear Mines”
  3. Suicide
  4. Revive
  5. Farm the node on your way to “The Crucible”
  6. When you approach Antor Bren, use the platform behind him and jump down
  7. You’ll land in front of the next node
  8. Proceed to farm the next two nodes in “The Crucible”
  9. Done

Second route

  1. Start with the node in the top right corner of “The Crucible”
  2. Proceed to farm…

  7. … in “The Burning Ruins”
  8. This ones a bit tricky. You can use dodges to climb the wall in the corner. Look at this picture.
  9. Farm the last node in “The Burning Ruins”. Done.

Third route

  1. Start with the left node in “The Burning Ruins”
  2. You can just walk over the lava to get to the other side
  3. Proceed to farm the other two nodes…
  4. … in “The Burning Ruins”

Bag of Tricks Vol. 53: Permanent Uptime of Artificer’s Persuasion

Welcome to the latest installment of our Bag of Tricks! On some days you will find useful tricks, gimmicks and ideas here that can make life in Neverwinter Online easier. Some of the stuff should be well known, but since even veterans learn something new every now and then, chance is you can, too.

The Insignia bonus “Artificer’s Persuasion” and it’s younger brother “Artificer’s Influence” are popular choices when it comes to the stable of support and even DPS classes. The bonus calculates off the buffed Power stat and adds 10%/5% to Recovery, Movement, Action Point Gain, and Stamina Gain. Especially Anointed Champion Devoted Clerics are natural “power houses” that can easily gain extra Recovery north of 20k with every Artifact power activation.

Normally you might think that the Insignia Bonus is not too strong because it’s naturally capped at the 60 second cooldown of Mythic Artifacts. But some Artifacts are actually able to generate way lower cooldowns, and with it more activations of Artificer’s Persuasion.

Forgehammer of Gond

The Forgehammer of Gond does not only help you in professions, its cooldown is also affected by Recovery. Most certainly a bug, it makes it a very favorable Artifact to use with Artificer’s Persuasion. It also adds some power, which fits the build of an Anointed Champion in example.

Dragon Artifacts

While the use of the Forgehammer could be labeled exploiting, there’s a completely legit way to keep a permanent uptime of Artificer’s Persuasion. The Dragon Artifacts (Heart of the Blue Dragon) for some reason are the only ones that have their cooldown reduced significantly if you fail to hit any targets with their powers. That way 60 seconds on Mythic quality turn to 15, the exact duration of Artificer’s Persuasion. In solo target fights it’s extremely easy to turn away from the boss, intentionally miss and refresh the bonus every 15 seconds.

Bag of Tricks Vol. 54: Be Smart About Upgrading the Current Off-Hands to Legendary

Welcome to the latest installment of our Bag of Tricks! On some days you will find useful tricks, gimmicks and ideas here that can make life in Neverwinter Online easier. Some of the stuff should be well known, but since even veterans learn something new every now and then, chance is you can, too.

Legendary gear is shiny and everybody wants it! And for earlier versions of the Artifact Gear, it made perfect sense to go all the way to orange. Because with the last upgrade of the gear, one additional enchantment slot would upgrade. This is no longer the case on Relic, Ascended and the upcoming Stronghold weapon sets, which feature all slots already at purple quality. It’s an amazing quality-of-life upgrade for players, but unfortunately makes upgrading the Off-Hand to legendary a pretty big waste of resources on some classes.

The difference between purple and legendary is marginal

While the Main-Hands still offer a perk in additional damage, not all of the Off-Hands do. On classes that do not have damage on them, the difference between level 59 purple and level 60 orange are merely ~200 stat points. Considering how much grind is involved in obtaining the 15 Legendary Marks for Relics, it’s not worth it. The same is probably also true for the other sets that can be leveled conventionally.

Unfortunately that does not apply to all classes equally. Hunter Rangers and Trickster Rogues, who get weapon damage from both the Main-Hand and Off-Hand still need to go all the way. But if you play one of the other classes, be smart about (not) upgrading the current Off-Hands to legendary!

The Quartermaster’s Enchantment has developed into a stable companion for adventurer’s ever since its introduction. Although it got initially nerfed (twice!), it’s still one of the better Utility Enchantments to slot. Part of the reason is the flexibility. Depending on what you need, it’s great for Refining Points or Guild Marks. If you’re solely after the RPs, the decision how to deal with the bags that drop form the Enchantment is pretty simple. You get to a combined slotted percentage of 11% (if possible), wait for a Double Enchantment, and open.

If you’re aiming for max profit, it’s not so easy. In this case you’re looking for the most Guild Marks you can get and both the bags themselves as well as the Enchantments and Runestones they drop can generate those. So do you open the bags or donate directly?

Our data actually shows that opening Spoils of War does not generate more Guild Marks. Even at the highest reward tier it’ll only net you 62 Guild Marks on average vs. 70 Guild Marks of donating them directly. On the contrary, lower bags like Abandoned Gear should be opened in any case. They drop the same amount of Enchantment and Runestones, but grant significantly less Guild Marks when donated directly. Even if you’re not able to hit the highest reward tier at 11% it should still make sense.

So if you’re looking for max profit and Guild Marks, donate Spoils of War directly and open everything else on a Double Enchantment event.

We already told you last week how the temporary structures present an excellent way to make profit or short-cut your Masterwork progression. But even if you’ve not even unlocked one single Masterwork, you can still benefit from the system by helping those that want to.

Blue rare item tasks ftw!

The first line of quests for each Masterwork profession has two steps. First you need to gather very basic resources and then complete three rare level 25 tasks. The full list of these rare items can be found on the wiki. Since the rare tasks are random and only change once per hour, some users get impatient and simply claim the necessary items from the Auction House. Not surprisingly they sell for quite a profit margin in days where many players are trying to advance in Masterworks.

Let’s looks at Artificing as example. All three listed Elemental Weapons currently sell for north of 160k on PC while production cost is only roughly 70k at 60% success chance. This is a common theme for all professions. The most rewarding are those 1-hour tasks, because you can rush them for few ADs and really pump out a lot of items whenever the task it up.

So looking whether certain quests are up can be quite profitable if you have normal professions on level 25.

Bag of Tricks Vol. 57: Masterwork Cheat Sheet

Welcome to the latest installment of our Bag of Tricks! On some days you will find useful tricks, gimmicks and ideas here that can make life in Neverwinter Online easier. Some of the stuff should be well known, but since even veterans learn something new every now and then, chance is you can, too.

Honestly, as buys or seller, are you lost in the Masterwork recipes? If that’s the case, don’t blame yourself because the recipe tree and dependencies are actually pretty confusing. There’s no way to quickly tell what resources you need to produce a certain item. Most require running a full batch of secondary tasks from which the requirements have to be added. Additionally the amount varies with the chance of successfully completing a task. Overall it’s quite a mess.

Masterwork Cheat Sheet

That’s why we created a Masterwork Cheat Sheet that calculates all dependencies and required resources for any given item of the new tier 3 Masterwork recipes. At this point it’s only available for OpenOffice, because it’s the only software that can handle redundancy. After you’ve downloaded the sheet, you want to do a couple things in the OpenOffice Calc settings:

  1. Deactivate Tools -> Cell Contents -> AutoCalculate. The spreadsheet is a bit clunky so it might make sense to do all your input first and then manually let it do the calculation (F9).
  2. Make sure Tools -> Options -> OpenOffice Calc -> Calculate -> Iterations is checked. It’s set to 500 on our test system.
  3. If for some reason the cells show errors, you might need to reopen the sheet.

Instructions

What the sheet does is calculating all the resources you need for a given item list and show the required tasks to run. Simply specify your target items and target amounts at the top and let the sheet do the rest! If you scroll down, you are going to find different sections:

  • Required Resources are the resources that you need to farm or buy to start. This mainly includes Guild Marks, Explorer’s Cases and the new resources that drop from dungeons. This is all you need. All other stuff will be fed with these resources.
  • Guild Mark Shopping List is what you need to buy with your Guild Marks from different vendors.
  • Masterwork Temporary Structure Tasks: Now the Masterwork task list start. The “Need” column does no longer indicate how many resources you need to buy, but how often you need to run the task. Of course, for the temp structures it’s essentially the same, because running the task simply means buying the resource. Masterworkers however can also simulate crafting the resource. In that case just adjust “Chance” to whatever percentage you have for a Tier 3 result. The Guild Marks will disappear in the calculation in that case, because we are no longer buying from a vendor.
  • Masterwork Tasks: Adjust the task chances to whatever percentage you have for a Tier 3 result. Then the sheet will show you how often you need to run the task on average to get the resources you need.

What you can do with it

The sheet can be extremely helpful in many cases. Let’s say you want to start your Masterwork journey and have to get to the Masterwork II recipes first. You can add all the items you need to hand over to the Artisan and let the sheet calculate the necessary resources. The same can be done with Masterwork III recipes.

And then you can obviously look up the necessary ingredients for any Masterwork III item. Sellers could even extend the sheet and add AD costs to the resources to calculate a value for the Auction House.

Disclaimer

As great as the sheet is, it’s still considered beta at this point. So please don’t bet your house on the data it generates and more importantly, double check whether the recipes were copied correctly. In case you find any error, let us know so we can correct it!

Most achievements in Neverwinter are pretty basic to get or only really appealing to true completionists. The Cloaked Ascendancy however features one that is both cool to figure out and unlock. And you literally have to fight for it.

“Mimic King” is not only the nickname of our Lead Designer Thomas Foss, it’s also a hidden boss and Easter egg inside the master version of the Spellplague Caverns dungeon. On defeat the boss grants the “Mimic Kingslayer” achievement.  First you have to  locate a “Shifting Key” which is hidden in a spcific Mimic Chest and then defeat the boss, which is no walkover either. It’s a fun encounter though and we recommend to try this at least once!

The full steps how to get to the boss and the achievement have been compiled by “Xenolith666” here and here. Have fun!

For the longest time there has been some confusion around the Quartermaster’s Enchantment, more specifically the percentage you need to get the best tier of drops from its packs. First tests thought they’d found the magic percentage at 10.5%, but that was later corrected to 11%. A new reddit post last week now concluded both are right, sort of.

It turns out 10.5% and 11% can both be sufficient depending on the number of utility slots you use to get your total. If you use six, the added percentage needs to be 11%. In case of five slots, you’ll only need to hit 10.5%. The ranks of the enchantments themselves do not matter as long as you hit these thresholds.

We hope that’s going to clear up the last bit of uncertainty, especially during Double Enchantment where everyone wants to open the packs. In case you’d like to know how the Quartermaster ranks up against other utility enchants, ask our Chettlebell. He knows stuff! Additionally here’s a list with all important facts about the Quartermaster:

  • The bags that drop from it are dependent on the mob level.
  • The level of the Enchantments that drop from the bags is dependent on the added percentage of all Quartermasters (10.5% or 11% for the best tier)
  • All other drops from the bags (Potions, Injury Kits) are dependent on the tier of the bag.

As we’ve shown you in our guide this week there’s a lot of rewards to grab from the ongoing Summer Festival. But most seasoned players will probably eye the Snail Mounts as these were newly added to the event. The acquisition of both is not as hard and complicated, but it can’t hurt to go over the best ways of getting the Fungal and Forest. Both currently sport two Barbed and one Universal slot by the way, making them eligible for the Artificer’s PersuasionMagistrate’s Patience and Victim’s Preservation Insignia Bonuses.

Fungal Flail Snail

If you turn in your daily over the complete duration of the event, you’ll be able buy the Mount with 21 Tokens on the last day. There are two ways of speeding up the process. You can either buy additional Favors with Copper Tickets or on the ZEN market. Since the reward binds to character anyway, there’s really no incentive to rush to your Mount. Depending on how often you’re able to log in and what else you want from the Favor store, you might need to invest a few ZEN in case you really, really want the Mount this year. However even if you miss up to a week you should easily be able to get enough Favors from the daily quests and your tickets.

Forest Flail Snail

It’s a different story for the Forest variant, which comes as unbound reward from the Petal store. Petals are uncapped and can be farmed all day any day. Since the Snail should sell for a nice amount early on, it might make sense to go after it as fast as possible. Please note however that the market is bound to crash hard. So it might make more sense to act smart and utilize the Festival’s Height, in which all Petals are doubled.

Petals come from various locations, but some make more sense than others. The contests net them, but it’s a comparably high effort for the given gain. The 18-hour task in the event profession is a no-go as well. What you can definitely do is trade in your Favors or 15 Copper Tickets for 220 Petals each. That way you should easily be able to get close to 500 Petals per day just from doing the dailies and your Ticket-Ball, or one Forest Snail per week.

Be smart

And then there’s gathering flowers in the Blooming Boughs. If you find a comparably empty instance you can easily farm one Snail every few hours just by picking flowers and trading them in for Petals. You need 5,600 flowers for one Mount. It is a lot, but you can get there. But here’s also where you need to be smart. All the Petal packs you can get for Favors, Tickets and flowers net double rewards during the Festival Height. So what you farm now could be worth twice as many Snails later on. It’s hard to say what makes most sense AD-wise as it’s dependent on how fast the market is going to recover and whether the Snails might re-appear later, in the Winter Event Gifts in example.

While the decision how fast to go for the new Snail Mounts is one you need to make on your own, now you at least now the best ways to acquire them! Have fun with your new toys!

Keybind Compendium

Keybinds are one of the more frequent topics on this format as they can be a major asset. We’ve had a few useful posts on the topic here and there, but Neverwinter Uncensored regular dupeks hit the ball out of the park with his useful keybind compendium lately.

It’s not only a basic guide how to set up your keybinds, but also a collection of almost every major shortcut and useful alias we know. It’s still an ongoing process and dupeks edits and adds to the original post in case a user brings up something helpful.

Advanced Modules

But dupeks wouldn’t stop there. In a second post they outlined how to bind target-able powers to always be cast on a certain player in your group. DC’s Exaltation in example is a power that you seldom want to cast except for a specific target. Because of that, the outlined keybinds and aliases are set up to override your power keys with a targeted command. That way you can’t accidentally cast it in a non-targeted way.

Overall it’s an impressive work! If you want to get a little bit more out of your keybinds, you definitely should take a look!

In this edition of our Bag of Tricks we’d like to extend the Summer Festival resources with another valuable piece. Most players are getting their daily Ticket-Ball by gathering flax flowers on the event map. Normally it’s not really an issue, but in crowded maps a lot of players are competing for the spots near the quest giver. So it might be faster to look elsewhere since the flowers are indeed spread all over the map.

Flax Flower Map

That’s why we created a flax flower map for you to get an overview of possible farming spots. There are actually a lot of possibilities to go back and forth between two nodes and complete the ten flowers quickly. Especially areas where players normally do other tasks, the Blooming Boughs or Grillin’ Grounds in example, are good spots.

No matter where you end up picking up your flowers, we certainly hope this map is going to help. Have fun with it! If you find additional spots, let us know.
